Child trafficking in the spotlight

MIDRAND - Child trafficking and missing children forms the topic of the June Making a Difference campaign Domestic Watch meeting.

The Midrand meeting will be held in Sun Valley, at La Fiorentina Restaurant on the corner of Bridle Pass and Champion roads on 19 June at 11am.

Penny Steyn of the Domestic Watch, which is sponsored by ADT, said crime was radically reduced in those suburbs where the Domestic Watch meetings were well attended.

The theme of the June meeting comes after the abduction of more than 200 schoolgirls in Nigeria by Boko Haram. Attendees will learn that abduction could happen to anyone’s child and that it should be taken seriously by all.

Child trafficking is the illegal movement of children for financial gain.

Prostitution of children, child pornography, forced labour, organ transplanting, trafficking for early marriage or begging, among others will be addressed.

The meeting will explain what to do if a child goes missing and how to report it to the police.
