The beginning of 2025’s athletics season is fast approaching, and with it, comes a renewed sense of optimism and anticipation, for what records will be broken; what distances will be crossed; what hurdles will be jumped; what javelins will be thrown; and what legends will be made in the coming year?
To help keep track of the fast-paced weeks ahead of athletics meeting after athletics meeting, look no further than the following list compiled by the Middelburg Observer.
Hoërskool Middelburg – January 17
On Friday, January 17, Middies will begin their trek to achieve another year of sporting excellence. The influx of new Grade Eights will be looking to make a name for themselves and cement their place as green and gold icons on the rise.
Hoërskool Kanonkop – January 23
The Swartleeus will be looking to kick their year off with a bang (quite literally), with the school on the hill hosting their interhouse meeting on Thursday, January 23.
Success is never far behind Hoërskool Kanonkop’s trail, and they will be positively aching to kick their sporting season underway.
Steelcrest High School – January 23
Steelcrest will be looking to continue its upward trajectory in the sports world, hosting its interhouse on Thursday, January 23.
HTS Middelburg – January 21
Few are as respected and dominant on the school sporting scene as the Rooies, and with their interhouse set for Tuesday, January 21, the school will be raring to provide their devoted fans with another year of glory.
Middelburg Primary School – January 21
MPS is set to spark on Tuesday, January 21, with their children eager to compete in a day of well-spirited competition.
Laerskool Kanonkop – Completed
To avoid the rush of the busy new year schedule, and allow all the attention on the kids, Laerskool Kanonkop conducted their interhouse meeting last year.
Laerskool Middelburg – TBC
At the time of publication, Laerskool Middelburg has not yet decided when they will be hosting their interhouse meeting, due to the significant rain wetting the school fields.
Laerskool Staatspresident CR Swart – January 17
CR Swart will be making use of the HTS Middelburg grounds to host their ambitious interhouse meeting on Friday, January 17.
Aerorand Primary School – January 24
Aerorand Primary School cannot wait to share the fun of sports, with the school’s interhouse meeting to take place on Friday, January 24.
Laerskool Dennesig – Completed
Laerskool Dennesig’s interhouse is done and dusted, with the school having finished proceedings last year.
