Man trapped for hours with hijackers, loses sum of R300 000

A hijacking victim was forced to drive around for hours at gunpoint while his abductors argued about killing him.

A Middelburg resident lost a total sum of R300 000 after he was hijacked last night and forced to withdraw his finances by three suspects.

According to Chris Molekwa, he was driving his silver Mercedes C180 along the N11 yesterday evening at 20:00 when he had a puncture near the Rockdale entrance.

He didn’t have a spare, and was approached by three men in an unmarked VW Polo who offered him a tyre.

After changing his flat, he was accompanied by two of the men to the filling station opposite Toyota at the Middelburg Mall where he gave them R300 for the tyre.

As he got into his vehicle the two men pointed a firearm at him and he was forced to drive around for hours at gunpoint.

The men then forced him to empty out his bank accounts, later leaving him alongside the N4, a short way beyond the Alzu PetroPort.

Chris then hiked along the N4 until a motorist gave him a lift to the Arnot off-ramp, where another motorist on his way to nightshift dropped Chris off at his own place of work.

According to Chris, the hijackers had fired a shot into the air, and one was about to shoot him when the other assailant told him that they had already taken all he has.

“They knew exactly who I was and where I stayed, and told me that if they got arrested, they would get out and come and find me.”

According to Chris, aside from his loss, the hijacking was a traumatic ordeal he didn’t know he would survive.

A be-on-the-lookout was issued for his vehicle this morning on Traffic Alert, and Chris is appealing to the public to assist in searching for his vehicle.

His car is a silver Mercedes C180, registration number: BF65CK.

One of the hijackers was wearing a brown fishing hat and a black jacket, and the other was waering white All Star shoes.
