Farmer and security guard remanded in custody

The farmer and security guard arrested for the alleged murder of two men are remanded in custody after yesterday's court appearance.

According to provincial media spokesperson for the SAPS, Col. Donald Mdhluli, the men were arrested for allegedly assaulting two men they accused of stealing sheep, which resulted in their deaths.

The SAPS are said to be conducting an investigation “because the remains of the two victims has not yet been found”.

The statement further said that the victims were allegedly burnt beyond recognition, and that the SAPS went to the farm yesterday to collect the ashes which will be sent for forensic testing.

• Reinardt Steyn and Dumisani Chriswell Masilela appeared before the Middelburg Magistrates’ Court where their bail application was postponed until September 5. They are remanded in custody.
