Municipal stands update

The municipality is currently auditing last week’s stand sales, focusing on reconciling the number of successful bids with the payments received.

This process will determine how many people paid for the stands they won in last Wednesday’s raffle.

Municipal spokesperson Lerato Kgomo told the Middelburg Observer today that the audit will clarify how many stands are remaining, if any.

Residents on the waiting list will be contacted by the municipality if there are any unsold stands.

This process could end by Friday.

The municipality reopened the sale of stands, and 206 stands in Dennesig North, 49 in Hendrina, and one in Aerorand West were available.

The process initially took place from July 25–30, but the municipality didn’t manage to sell all 712 available stands.

The event attracted a large number of hopeful homeowners.

At a press briefing on July 24, the municipality announced they had received 7 400 applications.

Of the available stands, 100 were reserved for municipal workers and employees, while 196 were set aside for first-time buyers and were sold with a 50% discount.

The remaining stands were sold at market value to individuals earning more than R600 000.

• Due to the population growth of the municipality, there is a high demand for affordable property, hence, the stand sales attracted a large number of aspiring homeowners.
