Policeman and two women, one an American tourist, die after head-on collision

Two of the people involved are American tourists.

Two women and a policeman died after a head-on collision between Belfast and Dullstroom yesterday afternoon.

According to reports, the policeman exited his vehicle shortly after the accident and called for help. He only walked a few steps further and collapsed and died at the scene.

The accident happened around 17:30, about 15km before Dullstroom, just 2km after the Palmer turnoff.

A police bakkie was travelling from Belfast to Dullstroom and a white bakkie was travelling in the direction of Belfast when the accident happened.

According to information obtained by the Middelburg Observer, a woman was also in the police vehicle, and the white bakkie contained a young man and his mother.

Both women, who were critically injured, were rushed to the Belfast Hospital by emergency responders.

The woman, who was in the white van, was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. The woman who was in the police vehicle, died an hour after she arrived at the hospital.

The young man, who was also in the white bakkie, was taken from the Belfast Hospital to the Middelburg Hospital last night, where X-rays were taken. He was then taken back to the Belfast Hospital and transferred to the Witbank Hospital this morning.
