Café robbed by gun wielding gang of four

Four armed robbers stormed a local takeaway café on Saturday, making off with cash, cigarettes and cellphones to the estimated value of R65 000.

A customer was at the counter when the gang stormed the café at around 18:20.

The four men, all dressed in brown clothing and wearing balaclavas, entered the shop and pointed a firearm at the owner of the shop.

While he was held at gunpoint, the three other robbers focused their attention on his brothers, who were also in the shop.

The robbers assaulted his brothers, while the fourth robber instructed the owner to open the cash register, where an estimated R7 000 was stolen.

The other members of the gang forced the men to hand over their cellphones.

The robbers then grabbed as many cartons of cigarettes as they could before they fled the café.

Thankfully, no one was seriously injured during the robbery.

According to information, the robbers escaped with an iPhone, a Samsung and a Huawei phone with a combined estimated value of R32 000.

The stolen cigarettes were estimated at around R25 000.

This robbery marks an uptick in robbery cases over the past three weeks.
