Middies and Rooies help Pumas pounce to victory

A dominant display from the Pumas leaves the crowd purring.

Six players from HTS Middelburg and Hoërskool Middelburg helped the Pumas kick off their Craven Week campaign with a bang.

The Pumas secured a commanding 60–17 victory over the Limpopo Blue Bulls in their opening game of the tournament, which is sure to fill the side with confidence for the remainder of the week.

Middies’ very own Matthew Abbey got his name on the scoresheet, with five conversions and a penalty earning the fly-half a total of 13 points.

Abbey was accompanied by schoolmates Wandisa Mthobeni, Khensani Buthelezi and Kefilwe Phamotse, who are all contributing to the Pumas’ success.

HTS Middelburg head boy and star flanker, Toy Engelbrecht, is proudly representing his school at this year’s Craven Week alongside fellow Rooies Johnny dos Santos.

Hoërskool Monument of Krugersdorp is playing host to this year’s edition of the tournament, with Hoërskool Middelburg already announced to hold the 2025 Craven and u/18 Academy Week.
