Mozambican nationals arrested for possession of alleged stolen vehicle

Swift action from the Middelburg police led to the arrest of two Mozambican suspects and the recovery of a stolen vehicle.

Bheki Lubisi (30) and Eusebio Nhar (46), both Mozambican nationals appeared at the Middelburg Magistrates’ Court yesterday, April 9, after being arrested for possession of suspected stolen vehicle.

According to a media statement, the owner of a blue Ford Bantam opened a case at Middelburg Police Station on April 7, indicating that the vehicle was stolen at his house in Middelburg, in the early hours of that day.

Later that day, police received information on the whereabouts of the vehicle.

Police swiftly responded and upon arrival at Uitkyk Village, police found two suspects that were already apprehended by community members. Fortunately enough, the vehicle which was positively identified by the owner was also found at the scene.

Both suspects were arrested and charged for possession of a suspected stolen vehicle.

A charge of contravention of the Immigration Act of South Africa was added against Nhar after discovering that he did not have valid documentation to be in the country. On this matter, police are working in collaboration with the Department of Home Affairs.

During their court appearance, the two suspects were denied bail and the matter was postponed to April 16 for further investigation, meanwhile the two remained in custody.

At this stage, police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges against the suspects as the investigation continues.

The arrest of the two suspects will possibly encourage community members to work collaboratively with the police in the fight against crime.
