Two bicycles stolen in Kanonkop

Bicycles seem in high demand under prowling criminals with two more bikes stolen within a week.

Three thieves cut open the palisades of a home in Kanonkop early this morning to steal two bicycles valued at R100 000.

Carine Smith told the Middelburg Observer that the thieves struck at 03:00, making off with her and her husband’s Titan bikes.

Carine’s daughter and husband were awake at the time, as her daughter had a netball game in Gauteng. Their dogs barked and they glanced out of the window, but could see nothing out of order.

Meanwhile, the three criminals crawled across their lawn after cutting open the palisades, and made their way to the family’s lapa where they lifted the two bikes out of the lapa window.

“We have beams all over, and the thieves must have known this because they crawled,” Carine said.

Unfortunately, the beams around the lapa were not activated and the criminals were quick to make off with their loot.

Carine and Stefan Smith are appealing to the public to help keep lookout for their bicycles. Anyone with any information that could assist in relocating the stolen bicycles are asked to please call 082 417 9591 or 082 877 9483.

  • This is the second theft of bicycles within a week, after a thief grabbed a bicycle last week Thursday right from the bike stand at Seattle Coffee in Aerorand. Fortunately, the quick response from security managed to foil the thief’s attempt.
