Piet Pompies undergoes metamorphosis

The former lead singer of the dynamic, hilarious group DJ Ossewa, Pieter Rischmuller, AKA Piet Pompies, decided in 2014 to spread his wings, discover new horizons, experience new adventures and set the world on fire to sing and entertain audiences with his foot-stomping, pulsating, body-swinging songs and witty, sparkling stage persona.

Pieter is not only a singer, songwriter, radio personality and joker, but also an excellent auctioneer and MC for all occasions, as well as a keen golfer, and also well known in the fishing world.

He made his debut as a radio presenter in 1996 and later also as a sports commentator, before taking on the music industry in 2003 with the group DJ Ossewa.

In 2014, Pieter decided to conquer the world under his own steam, with songs such as “Briljantjie”, “Fynbos”, “Engeltjie”, and “Hope”. His first solo album with the title Solo made its appearance in October 2014, and is played on several radio stations across the country.

His English songs “Show Me More” and “3 Words” are also played on radio stations all over the world. The song “3 Words” was Pieter’s first full-fledged Country song, and made a big splash in the USA in particular. It was also nominated for an international award.

In 2018, his next album was released by Vonk Musiek under his real name, Pieter Rischmuller, and once again he put hits on the album. Four of the songs were already number one on several radio stations’ hits parade.

Look out for new songs like “Bring Net Jou Sussie Saam”, “My Harlequin”, “Jakkals Dans Vanaand”, “Summertime”, and “Goodbye is net vir now”.

In his 30 years in the entertainment industry he has written many popular songs, and in 2021 Pieter decided to share his passion for country music with the world as well, with great success.

He decided to show the world that there is much more to him than just the upbeat party songs for which he became known.

He has already provided a head-turning song that speaks to your soul, with his own creation “Cry On My Shoulder”, which is already available in digital form, as well as on YouTube. The song has already received international recognition and is played worldwide. Then he also recorded a nice cheerful party song with his namesake Pieter Smith (Stukkie van der Merwe), with the title “Wie se Brannewyn”.

In 2021, he gained recognition for his music at the Afri-Indie Independent Music Awards, by being named Best Male Artist for 2021, and in the same year Pieter received five nominations for the South African Country Music Awards, and walked away with three awards for his songs “Rodeo”, “Jag op Tulbach”, and “Country Girl”. The latter hit made a big splash on country music radio stations around the world.

In 2022, Pieter released a bunch of new songs, “Amper Daar”, “Anything”, “Boshoff Afrikaners”, and “Christmas Star”.

“Anything” received the Afri-Indie Award in 2022 for the Southern Rock Single of the Year, and Pieter also received the Afri-Indie Award for Best Southern Rock Music Video, as well as Best Southern Rock Live Act for 2022.

“Anything” was also well received all over the world by radio stations, and reached the charts in the USA. “Anything” also received an award at the SA Country Music Awards, as Best Male Country Single for 2022.

“Christmas Star” was Pieter’s first Christmas song, which he wrote and recorded with the popular SA country music group West. The song was also heard worldwide on radio stations.

“Boshoff Afrikaners” is still on hit parades in SA this year, and in Bloemfontein it was number one for 7 weeks on Rosestad Stereo, and even held the number one position in Mpumalanga on Radio Laeveld. “Boshoff Afrikaners” has also been nominated for an award for Best Afrikaans Song by the Afri-Indie Awards this year.

Pieter will again be nominated by the Afri-Indie Awards in six categories. One of the nominations is for his latest release, titled, “Oh Yeah”.

He made the transformation from Piet Pompies to Pieter Rischmuller successful and strategic, and his music is available on all digital platforms. If you listen to his great variety of music, his success around the world, and attend his performances, you can see why he is regarded as one of South Africa’s music legends by audiences across the country.

Book Pieter for your next function and be assured of endless entertainment and a musical journey.
