Alleged cop killers back in the dock

The four men accused of shooting and killing a police officer last Monday made their second court appearance today (Thursday).

Paulio Ticha Quembo (33), Nelson Mudavahu (33), Lawrence Simango (34), and Denis Spencer Chipenza (35) appeared in the Middelburg Regional Court for their legal representation applications.

One of the accused, Chipenza, was released from the Middelburg Provincial Hospital and appeared for the first time with his co-accused.
The accused also asked the court to transfer them to Witbank, claiming that the Middelburg Police verbally abuse them.

The men are facing charges of robbery, attempted murder and murder.

They allegedly shot and killed Detective Sergeant Simon Mbonani and seriously wounded Sergeant Sthembiso Magubane.
The two officers were shot whilst responding to a diesel theft on a mine on the N4.

The matter was postponed to April 25 for a formal bail application.
