Delivery vehicle sinks into unattended ditch

A delivery vehicle sunk into a ditch in Verdoorn Street.

Traffic on the northern side of Verdoorn Street in Eastdene was mildly affected due to an attempt to recover the vehicle, after it sunk all the way to its undercarriage in the driveway of an Eastdene residence.

An Eastdene resident at the scene pointed out that the ditch in the driveway was caused by the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality’s Department of Water and Sanitation last Wednesday, after they attended to a burst pipe.

Another ditch left behind by municipal teams after repairing a burst pipe.

The team filled the ditch with soil, leaving the paving bricks on one side, and then another leak sprang from the same pipe the next day.

According to the resident, the leak was reported to the municipality on numerous occasions since last Thursday, yet no one returned to repair it, which then resulted in the ground being saturated by water.

Another resident pointed out that there are multiple ditches in the Eastdene area that have been left for months by the municipality, regardless of the Eastdene Shopping Complex’s appeals.
