Four guards shot at Middelburg Hospital

Four male security guards were shot at the Middelburg Provincial Hospital.

According to information provided by security guards at the hospital, the guards were shot by “riot control officers”.

The guards said they submitted a memorandum to their previous employer, Mafoko Security Patrols, last Friday and were told they would receive feedback on July 20.

The guards said they went to Mafoko’s offices today only to find they were closed and the riot control officers were guarding the premises. Police reportedly asked the disgruntle guards to wait for feedback from their previous employer when the offices were open again.

As they were driving towards Walter Sisulu Street from the CBD, they witnessed their colleagues at the hospital being shot.
One of the guards was seriously wounded.

Www.mobserver.co.za contacted Dumisani Malamule from the Mpumalanga Department of Health, but he was unaware of the incident.

• Police spokesperson Brigadier Selvy Mohlala also said he was not aware of the incident.
