Belfast farmers appear in court for alleged involvement in human trafficking

Two suspects, father and son, Cornelis Johannes Uys (60) and Cornelis Johannes Albertus Uys (23) were remanded in custody by the Belfast Magistrate Court today (Monday). 

They were arrested by the Hawks Nelspruit-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation on Sunday as additional suspects in the human trafficking case.

Their arrest followed after the other two suspects (brothers) Carlos Bernardo Guambe (34) and Gabriel Bernardo Guambe (32) were arrested last week on charges of  trafficking in person and additional charges of Contravention of Immigration Act.

The suspects were remanded in custody until they were joined by the Uys duo today.

The case against the four suspects was postponed to Monday 11 July 2022 for a formal bail application.
