Good Samaritan helps capture suspect after attempted robbery

Adolf Senamela (29) appeared in the Middelburg Magistrate's Court today (Thursday) on a charge of attempted robbery.

According to Brigadier Selvy Mohlala (Provincial Media Spokesperson) the female victim was walking her child to school at about 07:00 yesterday.

On her way back the incident occurred.

A suspect approached her, pulled out a knife and attempted to rob her from her cell phone.

When she tried to ran away, she was nearly hit by a car.

The driver of the vehicle stopped and asked the woman why she was running away.

She told him about the incident and the driver of the vehicle caught up with the suspect. He also called security personnel for assistance.

A knife was reportedly found in the suspect’s possession.

The police arrived shortly after which he was arrested and charged with attempted robbery.

Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela (Provincial Commissioner) applauded the action by the concerned citizen who displayed bravery by helping the woman and catching the alleged perpetrator.

*Bail of R300 was granted to Senamela. The case was postponed to 2 August for further investigation.
