The surrounding buildings had been evacuated as emergency response teams battled the blaze.
Emergency services were dispatched after an emergency alarm was triggered by smoke, following the spill.

According to an internal source there was an oil spill, which then resulted in the fire.
According to Ms Maseko no damage was caused to the unit.
She also told www.mobserver.co.za that remaining units are generating.
The safety risk management department of Duvha is investigating the blaze.
Ms Maseko could not be reached for further comment after initially denying the fire.
