96 TONS OF HEAVY ENGINEERING – A FIRST FOR MIDDELBURG

The superior craftsmanship and the sterling team work at Endeto Engineering placed Middelburg on the map with the sheer size of the newly fabricated Engineering Assembly.

Endeto Engineering was commissioned by Columbus Stainless to fabricate a ladle transfer car, weighing in at 96 tons, which is the first of its kind to have ever been built on the soils of Middelburg.

The ladle transfer car transports both empty and full ladles and slagpots to the various processing stations. The combined mass of ladle transfer car, ladle, slag pot and molten steel and slag is 360 tons.

In February, Endeto Engineering was awarded the contract to fabricate and supply a complete ladle transfer car for Columbus Stainless. Since the commissioning of the plant in 1995, the cars were only refurbished and never replaced with a new unit. The work was completed ahead of schedule, and was transported from Endeto Engineering’s premises on Monday 16 August 2021, where it travelled to the Columbus Stainless plant.

Mr. Lovett – Director of Endeto Engineering further thanked Columbus Stainless for the opportunity, saying that the ground-breaking work done on the fabrication created an opportunity of learning for each person who played a part in the contract.

“Endeto is firmly set to stamp it’s footprint in the market as an engineering firm that is able to handle any heavy engineering fabrications and installations,” Mr. Lovett concluded.
