Slow vaccine start in Mhluzi

It was a slow start for vaccinations at the Eric Jiyane Hall on Thursday.

When www.mobserver.co.za visited the Eric Jiyane Hall at about 09:00, no residents were getting their jabs. While at the Adelaide Tambo Hall, there were at least 15 people in line to get their Covid-19 vaccination.

The Mpumalanga Department of Health has availed over 15 vaccination sites in the Steve Tshwete Local Municipality namely: Middelburg Hospital, Adelaide Tambo Hall, Eric Jiyane Hall. Nazareth Hall, Eastdene Hall, Rockdale Clinic, Sikhululiwe Clinic, CCM Church, Hendrina Municipal Chamber, Sydney Choma Banquet Hall, Cynthia Murphy Hall, Kees Taljaard Cricket Stadium and the Kwazamokuhle Clinic.

The government announced that 18 to 34-year-olds will be next in line for the jab. During the President’s address on Sunday, he said the rollout will start on September 1.

People over the age of 35 are now allowed to register for the Covid-19 vaccine via the EVDS portal by dialling *134*832# or by sending a WhatsApp with the word REGISTER to 060 012 3456.

Residents are urged t to bring along their ID when they visit vaccination sites.
