Ekwazini copper thief arrested

A man was arrested by the Mhluzi Police after he was caught stealing copper wire cables from Ekwazini Secondary School.

The man was apprehended by Foto Security on Tuesday. It is believed that the suspect started stealing from the school last Thursday.

The thief was caught on camera, and Foto Security managed to track the suspect to a scrap yard in Mataylen, Mhluzi. He was then taken to Ekwazini Secondary School, where he confessed to the crime.

He also admitted to stealing gutters from Mhluzi Primary School and selling the items to a scrap yard. Foto Security called the police, who then arrested the suspect after his confession.

Schools in the area have been hard hit by criminals stealing copper and computers during the winter school holidays.

• The suspect is known to the newspaper but can not be disclosed before appearing in the Middelburg Magistrates Court.
