Update: Man shot in Midwater heist succumbs to his wounds

Innocent civilians were caught in the crossfire of a fatal cash-in-transit heist at the Engen Garage near Midwater Mall on Friday afternoon.

A group of armed bandits cold-bloodedly opened fire in the middle of public, while targeting a G4S transit vehicle, wounding three bystanders.

The crowded garage was sent into a frenzied panic after a man refueling his vehicle was shot in his head, and a pregnant mother with her daughter were both wounded.

It has been confirmed that the man died of his injuries, later in hospital. He has not yet been formally identified by his next of kin, but a murder docket has been opened.

The two other victims have been identified as Ms Mariska Griffin and her daughter.

The Griffins’ vehicle, where a stray bullet entered through the roof.

They were both shot through the leg, but have since been discharged from hospital.

The bullet went straight through the roof and was lodged into the panel framing the windscreen.
