Theft of motor vehicles on the rise

The Middelburg Police have issued a warning to vehicle owners to take extra precautionary measures after they have noticed a spike in theft of motor vehicles.

Capt. Khanyisile Zwane, local police spokesperson, said that several Toyota Hilux bakkies were stolen in recent weeks. Older models are also at risk, Capt. Zwane warned.

She advised vehicle owners to install extra security measures, park in safe areas and to regularly check on your parked vehicle where possible.

Residents are also urged to report suspicious activity, persons or vehicles to the police.
