Update: Owners of small holdings, farms on R555 advised to be on the lookout for suspicious people – forensics comb scene

Forensic specialists from the SAPS is presently on the scene of the shootout in which three robbers were killed during the early hours of this morning on the R555.

 

The shootout between the robbers and the police ensued after the SAPS received a tip off that a gang of robbers were planning to target a number of ATM’s in Mhluzi.
One ATM was bombed before police confronted the robbers and a shootout ensued.

A high speed chase then led to the old Witbank road where another shootout ensued.

High calibre assault rifles were used by the robbers including AK47 and R5 rifles.
A number of them fled on food into the surrounding rural area.

Residents on small holdings and farms on the R555 are advised to be on the lookout for suspicious people.
The road remains closed for traffic while the search for the suspects continues.
