Local farmer in court for ‘dagga farm’

More than 2300 cannabis plants were found growing inside an eco-tunnel on the farm, which Mr Botha says does not belong to him.

A well known farmer of the Stoffberg district, Mr Herman Botha, appeared in the Senwabarwana Magistrates Court on March 29, after he was detained on the farm Redbaan outside Swartwater for allegedly cultivating cannabis.

More than 2300 cannabis plants were found growing inside an eco-tunnel on the farm, which Mr Botha says does not belong to him.

He claims he only visited the farm, belonging to a friend, for the weekend when police pounced.

The eco-tunnel was well equipped with irrigation and lights to manipulate growth.

The case was postponed to 28 July for further investigation.

Mr Botha told www.mobserver.co.za that neither the farm, not the cannabis belongs to him.
