Mr Johannes Mahlangu (51) was reversing his car when out of nowhere appeared a speeding sedan, the unknown vehicle stopped near a gate and one of the occupants fired several shots at Mahlangu.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died.
Mahlangu worked as a Control Provincial Inspector at the Middelburg Cost Centre.
The motive of the senseless slaying of the respected traffic officer remains unknown and a murder case is being investigated by the Kwaggafontein police.
Mpumalanga Community Safety, Security and Liaison MEC, Vusi Shongwe, has condemned the murder.
Shongwe has also called on community members who have information to come forward in order to assist the police.
Mr Mahlangu will be remembered as a dedicated family man by his family and a hard working and reliable traffic officer by his co-workers.
“I have lost both a brother and a friend,” said older brother Sampie Mahlangu.
He leaves behind his wife and eight children.
Mahlangu will be laid to rest on Saturday, 10:00 at his house in Tweefontein Ext 2, Kwamhlanga.
