Limpopo: Groblersdal taxi operators to showcase their driving skills at regionals

A trio of taxi operators attached to the Groblersdal Taxi Association (GTA,) was recently awarded Skilled Driving Awards by Limpopo Department of Transport.

The three operators competed with counterparts from other taxi associations in Sekhukhune District Municipality (SDM). They managed to obtain the first, second and third positions, Polokwane Review reports.

The first position went to Xolani Mahlangu with Khomotso Mavuso and Prince Mmanokwane obtaining second and third positions respectively.

They received merit certificates and trophies and two of them, who obtained first and second positions, will represent the district at the provincial level.

Bomber Mathunyane, a GTA coordinator, who also trained the drivers in preparation for the competition, said the provincial competition would be held from 24 to 27 October this year.

“They were selected after they outsmarted outsmarting drivers from various platforms in the Groblersdal taxi rank earlier this year. They were prepared to win in the regional competition through ensuring they followed all rules of the road. They were equipped with advanced driving and good behaviour tips. They excelled and made us proud by winning the competition,” said Mathunyane.

Bomber said he was working with the Dennilton and Groblersdal traffic police to impart driving skills on the participants.

“This feat will encourage other drivers to take the industry seriously and obey the rules of the road to safely transport our passengers,” added Mathunyane.

He said more training would be offered to the drivers to prepare them for the coming provincial competition.

“Hopefully our drivers will represent the region and the association with honour and return with prizes to take part in the national competition. We want to make it a resounding success that will benefit all our taxi drivers,” Concluded Mathunyane.
