Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp-A Malelane Favorite

It is nestled on the northern banks of the Crocodile River and only 12 kilometers from the Mozambican border.

Nominated as the best run camp for three consecutive years, Crocodile Bridge is a hospitable camp and a firm favorite amongst locals and international visitors. Nestled on the northern banks of the Crocodile River and only 12 kilometers from the Mozambican border, Crocodile Bridge is the perfect place to spot the famous Big 5 before heading to one of the sun-kissed beaches of Mozambique.

The camp is relatively smaller than other camps in the Kruger, with 20 bungalows, 8 safari tents, and 18 campsites for budget conscious travelers. The bungalows are a great option for families, boasting two or three bedroom units with an en-suite bathroom with a shower, air-conditioning and a kitchenette.

Although the camp doesn’t have a restaurant, there is a small shop, along with a range of restaurants in Marloth Park and the Komatipoort area. The closest restaurant is La Fera which is 3,8 kilometers away from Crocodile Bridge Rest Camp. The restaurant is well-known for its Sunday buffets and incredible river views.

The area surrounding Crocodile Bridge frequently sees black and white rhino, giraffe, lion, leopard, cheetah, zebra and several antelope species. Hyenas are also known to patrol the camp fence every night.

Activities offered at the camp include guided morning, sunset and evening game drives in open safari vehicles; along with bush walks and an overnight eco-trail. Game drives allow you to cover a lot more ground than being on foot however bush walks offer an incredible opportunity to track rhino, elephant and lion; as well as learn and observe fascinating facts about the African bush.

The Lebombo Eco Trail is a 5-day outdoor adventure that is rated the best in Southern Africa, discovering unique fauna and flora enroute. The trail departs from Crocodile Bridge every Sunday and ends at Pafuri on a Thursday during the dry season. With only 5 vehicles plus the guide’s vehicle allowed on the trail at any time, one is sure to have an unforgettable experience.

Departing the Kruger and entering Mozambique through the Lebombo border, one soon arrives in the city of Maputo. There are a number of tropical beach destinations surrounding the city and to the north, including Inhaca Island, Costa do Sol, Machangulo, Macaneta Beach, Bilene, Xai-Xai and Inhambane.
