Stolen items recovered, two arrested

Sibusiso Nkonde (39) and Kenneth Madonsela (31) were arrested in town on Wednesday afternoon after they were found in possession of stolen household items.

The same team of detectives who recovered stolen cars and computers from Mvuzo Primary School last year, worked tirelessly against the increase on burglaries in Mhluzi.

The police upon a tip-off arrested the men, Nkonde was arrested in town and Madonsela in Mhluzi, they were found with allegedly stolen items.

The items included plasma tv’s, cellphones, laptops, shoes, duvets and a truck battery suspected to be stolen in Mathaileni in Mhluzi.

Kenneth Madonsela, also known as “Ken”, allegedly sells stolen items and later comes back with Mkonde who poses as the owner of the stolen items, threatens the buyers to give back the stolen items.

“The chain ends with foreign nationals, as most of the items were found already packaged and ready to be sent off to their respective countries,” said Sergeant Nelisiwe Masemola.

It was discovered that the pair targeted people who rent rooms, because they tend to move to other areas where it is “safe” making it difficult for police to track them.

“Housebreaking cases have increased and the police will not be lenient towards offenders. We also plead with the community members not to buy stolen items as it is also an offense and it creates a demand for stolen items,” said Sgt Masemola.

The pair appeared in court on Thursday on charges of housebreaking and theft.

Anyone from Mathaileni whose property were stolen can contact Sgt Evens Mohlala on 013 249 1522.
