(Video) Dashcam captures taxi crashing into car after running red light

The driver allegedly tried to climb into the passenger seat after the crash.

A driver, who has asked for anonymity, captured shocking dashcam footage of what could have been a fatal crash as a minibus driver ignores a red light and speeds past queuing motorists.

The accident occurred last Friday on Walter Sisulu Street near the Nkangala District Municipality offices at around 17:11.

In the dashcam footage, the taxi driver is seen running a red light and crashing into a red Audi that was driving towards Hobson Street.
The victim, Nkangala District employee Vusi Phetla, was heading to Mhluzi after work.

Eyewitnesses alleged that the minibus driver was seen attempting to exit the driver’s seat and move to the passenger seat, but the door wouldn’t open.

The Middelburg Observer spoke to Phetla this morning, who said he was on his way home when the taxi unexpectedly crashed into him.

He was transported to Life Midmed Hospital for medical treatment, where X-rays were conducted, and he was kept under observation for 72 hours.
He added that the right side of his chest still hurts, and he is currently at home recovering from the traumatic accident.

• His vehicle was damaged beyond repair, and a case has been opened with the Middelburg police.
