‘Human trafficking’: Father and son denied bail
The two men accused of human trafficking appeared before the Belfast Magistrates’ Court today for their formal bail application.
Cornelius Johannes Uys (60) and his son Cornelius Johannes Albertus Uys (22) were denied bail.
The matter was remanded to August 22 for further investigation.
The courtroom gallery was filled with unruly EFF members.
The duo are facing charges of human trafficking following a multidisciplinary operation in June by members of the Nelspruit-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit, the Flying Squad, Department of Labour and Home Affairs.
The officials “rescued” seven women, nine children under the age of five and 23 men, all over the age of 18.
