Care Riders are 150 km closer to their target

The Middelburg Cycling Club’s Care Riders are preparing for the gruelling Munga and Munga Equipe, and tackled nearly 150 km of the Stoffberg area during a long distance training session over the weekend.

16 local cyclists intend on tackling one of the most extreme MTB relay races that covers 1 000 km through the Karoo in less than 120 hours to benefit their charity of choice, the Middelburg Care Village.

The Care Riders have a target of R500 000 that they will attempt to raise, to assist with the educational needs of the children of Care Village.

With nearly R100 000 already raised, the Care Riders are calling on the support of the community to reach their target by the first week of December, when they head off to the Munga.

One of the Care Riders, Andre Brandmuller, explained that their group took off at 06:00 on Saturday morning, clearing a little over 140 km to reach Stoffberg, where they then proceeded to ride along the old train tracks, to Bothasberg and then past the Elandslaagte Primary School back to Middelburg.

“This Saturday’s training session was attended by Sanet Griesel, Middelburg’s own Iron Woman who will be taking part in the Triathlon World Championships in Hawaii this October, as well as Roger Henriques, who has ridden the furthest on his mountain bike this weekend than ever before. It just goes to show how our group of cyclists consists of people from all walks of life.”

• Community members who are able to assist with financial donations towards the cause should take note that a Section 18A certificate will be issued by the Nika Foundation for all contributions.
