Middelburg Preparatory is adding a high school division
Middelburg Preparatory will be extending its academic profile by opening a High School section and offering Grade 8 as from 2022.
The school has already purchased property adjacent to the current premises and begun the official process for this significant step.
The growth and building of the High School will take place in phases and develop in the following manner: Grade 8 in 2022, Grade 8 to 9 in 2023, Grade 8 to 10 in 2024, Grade 8 to 11 in 2025 and Grade 8 to 12 in 2026.
One of the key aspects of the College will be that they will follow an IEB curriculum from Grade 10 in 2024. The IEB, established in 2009, is an assessment body autonomous from the Department of Education, but committed to promoting the South African curriculum.
The IEB, has now gained international recognition in its own right as an examinations body. This is born out by the fact that 164 universities worldwide recognize the IEB results and accept students for study. These universities are in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the USA, the Netherlands, Dubai, France and Mauritius.
The IEB’s assessment standards are benchmarked internationally by UK NARIC (National Agency for the recognition and comparison of international skills and qualifications).
The IEB is quality assured for South Africa by Umalusi. Although the same subjects are taught in government schools. IEB Schools are able to teach and test differently.
IEB offers greater autonomy in terms of subject content as well as actively nurturing:
- Problem-solving abilities,
- Ethical reasoning
- Critical use of information
- Creative and reflective thinking
- Lifelong learning
- Learners who are given the opportunity to pit their intellectual capacity against an examination in which they are challenged to stretch themselves
- Respect for diversity, particularly in the South African context
All of which leads to heightened skill sets that in turn pay dividends at tertiary level. Applications for Grade 8 for 2022 are still open.
