VIDEO: Machadodorp two granted bail

The two men who are the subjects on a video that caused a social media storm, has been granted bail in the Belfast court today.

Machadodorp protests have led to building being torched.

Bruce Botha and Wayne Swart were charged with assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm. They had their formal bail application at the Belfast Magistrate Court today.

According to residents in Belfast, the roads surrounding the court building were cordoned off and people opposing the bail arrived by bus at the court building.
The situation in Machadodorp remains tense. Residents said that they received information that the community will retaliate should the duo be granted bail.

Botha and Swart were granted R500 bail each. They will not be returning to Machadodorp out of concern for their safety and have been taken to an undisclosed location.
Machadodorp was brought to a standstill when angry community members looted and later burnt down the shop of an local businessman.

• The Machado two were arrested after a video of them, trying to forcefully arrest a man, surfaced. It has since come to light that Botha and Swart were summoned to the scene by business owner after one of his employees were severely assaulted.

It is alleged that the man Botha and Swart are trying to arrest on the video, together with a second man were responsible for the initial assault. The victim of the initial assault was admitted to hospital.
