Three killed in shootout with Police

Motorist are advised to avoid the Old Witbank road (R555).

The road is still closed after a shootout between robbers and the Police in the early ours of this morning.

At 1:30 information was received of about twenty men planning to bomb ATMs at Mhluzi.
The operational team went to the area.

Upon arrival they found a group of criminals had already bombed one business. There was gun exchange with Fidelity security
The suspects were in four vehicles, a silver Volkswagen Polo, a blue Polo, ST Ford and red BMW 1 series.

Upon arrival the team were greeted with heavy fire from AK47, R5 rifles and a pistol

The Police returned fire and the suspects fled in a Ford and Volkswagen Polo.
Three occupants in the Polo were killed in the shootout.

The BMW lost control and four men got out of the car and shot at the Police with AK47 rifles. They fled into the bushes on the R555.
No member of the Police or security company is injured.

Members of the K9 unit are busy searching for the robbers in the bushes.
