Child dies after game drive goes wrong

A seven year-old learner from Future Achievers in Middelburg died after a game drive at Pienaardam Leisure Resort went horribly wrong on Saturday.

Mogau Elroy Mokgokong was attending a birthday party when he allegedly jumped off a trailer carrying people about to go on a game drive.

His father, Kabelo, said that he was about 300 metres away from the trailer when the accident happened but did not see his son jump off. When he arrived on the scene, he found his son lying behind the trailer.

It seems that Gau, as he was known to family and friends, jumped off the trailer whilst it was moving, losing his balance and landing under the wheels.

Mr Mokgokong accused the driver of the vehicle pulling the trailer of being in the country illegally and of not having a valid drivers licence.

The Middelburg police is currently investigating a case of culpable homicide.
