Youngsters measure strength on the soccer field

Fifty of Mbombela's youth participated in the annual Soccer Starz SA Friendship Cup in Pretoria at the end of September.

Over the Heritage Day long weekend, from September 20 to 25, Soccer Starz Nelspruit participated in the SA Friendship Cup at Pretoria’s Camp Discovery.

This was a national tournament held between Soccer Starz branches across the country. Teams from Cape Town, Gqeberha, East Londen, Bloemfontein, Polokwane and around Gauteng participated in this fun-filled event.

“Our players competed across the U7, U9, U11, U13 and U15 competitions over three days, and our U11s managed to win the Shield competition,” said Marc Bainbridge of Soccer Starz Nelspruit said.

“We unfortunately lost the U7 cup final and the U9 and U13 shield finals, but the boys did exceptionally well. Our U7 goalkeeper was also awarded goalkeeper of the tournament.”

The Soccer Starz programme provides an early training platform for children aged three to eight years old. They will learn various skills, not only in soccer, but other sports that involve playing with a ball.

Older ages are also included.
