Riverside CID launches World Menstrual Hygiene Day

In honour of World Menstrual Hygiene Day, which is acknowledged on May 28, the Riverside CID and Riverside CID Social Investment Foundation are proud to partner with Blossom Care Solutions as well as BP Riverside to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene, keeping girls in school, and combatting period poverty.

The campaign, which will run throughout May, aims to bring much-needed attention to the importance of menstrual hygiene for young girls and women in the community. Its partners will help provide quality sanitary products to girls in the Mbombela area who cannot afford them.

As part of the campaign, we are excited to announce a competition in collaboration with BP Riverside. Any customers who spend R350 or more at the petrol station and place their till slips in the competition box stand a chance to win a R1 000 shopping voucher. The voucher can be used at BP Riverside, providing a great opportunity to shop local and support the community.

“We are thrilled to be partnering with Blossom Care Solutions and BP Riverside to raise awareness about menstrual hygiene while working towards ending period poverty in our community, “said Gary Phillips, the Riverside CID’s corporate social investment program manager. “By coming together in such partnerships, we can create a lasting impact and help ensure that girls in our community have access to menstrual hygiene products and education.” Lesley Mawela of BP Riverside concurs.

“This campaign is an ideal opportunity for BP Riverside to express its support to the community, and we are glad to be part of it .Period poverty is a global issue affecting millions of girls and women worldwide. In South Africa, it is estimated that one in three girls misses school during their period because they cannot afford sanitary products. By addressing this issue, we can help empower girls to reach their full potential and break the cycle of poverty.

Ending period poverty is also linked to Sustainable Development Goal number 4, which is to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. “The Riverside CID encourages everyone in the community to support this important campaign by shopping local and participating in the competition. Let us create a better future for our girls and women,” said Jessica Prim, Riverside CID’s marketing coordinator.
