JAC launches the new in-your-face T9
The double-cab market is becoming somewhat crowded, but the JAC T9 will be a game changer.
The JAC T9 line-up offers a wide range of efficient internal combustion engine vehicles, a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) derivatives.
Both 4×4 and 4×2 options are available, as well as various specification levels.
“We are thrilled to introduce the exciting new T9 as the range-topper of our T-Series bakkies. The T9 will lead our charge in the double-cab market, with our versatile T8 and economical T6 line-ups focusing on specific target markets within this market segment,” said Karl-Heinz Göbel, the CEO of JAC Motors South Africa.
The new T9 is based on the company’s third-generation platform, and JAC claims it is the most advanced pickup in its 55-year history of vehicle manufacturing.
It boasts a five-star safety rating and will be introduced into South Africa and Australia later this year. The BEV and PHEV 4×4 derivatives will follow in 2024, and the first quarter of 2025 will see the addition of a 2.5L turbo-diesel derivative.
“South Africa was the first right-hand drive market for JAC Motors. With the brand also making inroads in the Australian market, we are fortunate to get the latest products soon after the global launches,” says Göbel.
The exterior is bold and in-your-face. The interior boasts genuine high-grade leather, a seven-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system providing a luxurious driving experience for both the driver and the passengers.
Active and passive safety features include, among others, autonomous emergency braking, forward collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, adaptive cruise control, tyre pressure monitoring, a 360˚ surround-view camera, and Isofix child seat anchors. It also features seven airbags, including a front centre airbag, ensuring the highest level of safety for occupants.
The T9 derivatives will be introduced in South Arica with both petrol and diesel engines. The latter will produce 125kW and 410Nm. The 2.0-liter petrol will produce 168kW and 380Nm. A ZF eight-speed automatic will channel the power to the wheels.
Pricing is to be announced closer to the launch date.
