Dry, but certainly not boring racing at Phakisa Raceway

The highlights of the day were the combined Car Care Clinic 111 and Superhatch sprint and 200km endurance races.

Adrian Dalton took the 200 win in his Golf 1, well clear of 111 Class A duo Wouter Roos and Graeme Nathan’s Golf GTI 6, 111 B winner Roland Hopkins, top 111 GT finisher Johan van der Vyver’s Subaru and earlier leader Phillip Meyer’s Porsche.

Top Superhatch crew Andre Dannhauser and Brett Garland’s Class A Corsa was next home from Class B crews Donavan le Roux and JP Nortje, and Christiaan van Wyk, and Adriaan Vermaak. Francis and George Aldrich took Suparhatch Class C from Devon Piazza-Musso.

The Pabar Gauteng VW Challenge saw a championship shake-up. Class A leader Rory Atkinson moved to the top of the log after he and top Class C driver, Ian Walker, enjoyed perfect grand slam weekends. Overall, Atkinson beat Wayne and Bevan Masters, Sam Dale, Derik Smalberger and Chris Dale in Class A. Pretorius took Class B from Bevan Williams, Charise van der Merwe, Elana Croeser, and newcomer Yotti Nousias. And Walker took Class C from Andy Gossman and Philip Croeser.

Thomas Falkiner benefited from Jeffrey Kruger hitting trouble after leading the first few laps to lead Rudi Barnard, Andre Human, Kruger, JP Nortje and David Coetzee home and take the first Lotus Challenge race. Falkiner went on to do the double from Barnard, Kruger, Human and Nortje. Sean Hepburn beat Andre du Plessis and Davide Favo to both Locost wins.

Peter Hills extended his unbeaten DOE Formula Vee winning streak to four races in a row. He beat Lendl Jansen, Gert van den Berg, son Vaughn Hills, Theodore Vermaak and Shaun van der Linde to race 1. Grandpa Peter went on to do the Phakisa double over Jansen, Van den Berg, sons Vaughn and Brandon Hills, and Van der Linde in the restarted race 2.
