A car burnout on two wheels

Fast and Furious stuntman, Didi Bizzarro set to stun Durban on June 18 and 19.

You have probably seen a burnout before. But have you ever witnessed a burnout while the car in question is up on two wheels? That is one of the many mind-blowing stunts that will take place at A State of Stance 2022, Pavilion Shopping Centre in Westville, Durban on June 18 and 19.

The driver is the international stuntman, Didi Bizzarro. The 38-year-old comes from a long line of stuntmen (three generations, in fact) and says his grandfather performed in South Africa as long ago as in 1972.

Born in Limassol while his family was on tour in Cyprus, Bizzarro counts Roma in Italy as his home. He made his first appearance on stage at the tender age of four before turning professional when he was just 14 years old. You will not easily find a more experienced stuntman (with a longer list of broken bones sustained during practice) than him.

So, what else can we expect to see from Bizzarro, who recently lent his stunt-driving talents to the Fast and Furious 10 as well as 2021 blockbusters House of Gucci and Red Notice, at the fourth instalment of A State of Stance? H will also be drifting, displaying his precision driving skills and even executing a few tricks on a motorcycle.

Didi Bizzarro.

Though it is the latter he finds most exciting, he holds a particular fondness for rear-wheel-drive BMW motor vehicles and counts a modified M135i among his collection of cars. He also happens to own a race-prepped E46 M3 (which we suspect goes through tyres like nobody’s business).

When asked about the most rewarding part of his profession, Bizzarro’s answer was a refreshingly simple one, “The reaction of the crowd”. This high-octane yet family-friendly event, which is brought to you by VP Racing Fuels SA, will also include displays of custom-built stance cars, hot rods and other exciting vehicles. There will also be an appearance by the Red Bull Car Park Drift champions, a thrilling display by SA’s Queen of Smoke Stacey-Lee May, a sound-off competition targeting 10 world records, an afterparty featuring artists such as superstar rapper and singer AKA, and plenty more.

Tickets cost R250 per person for Saturday, June 18 and R200 for Sunday June 19. VIP tickets are R500 for Saturday and R400 for Sunday. Kids under 10 enjoy free entry while pensioners pay just R150.
