Longtom Photography Club focuses on Salon Status

Longtom Photography Club received Salon Status in the 2021 Photographic Society of South Africa (PSSA) National Interclub Competition.

This prestigious status is given to clubs worldwide that create exceptional photos, worthy of an exhibition in an art gallery.
Heather Aspeling entered her photo ‘Feather’ in the Open Category and received 36 points.
Professional photographer and videographer, Des Jacobs, entered ‘Blyde River Canyon’ in the Scapes Category and received 36 points.
Amateur photographer, Juanita Steyn, was the only member who also entered individually. She received her first salon acceptance for her photo of a red-billed oxpecker perched on the back of a zebra.

Categories in the PSSA National Interclub Competition are announced annually and clubs are invited to submit their best 20 images taken by their members for monthly club competitions from the past two years.
The 2021 NEP (North-eastern Provinces) interclub competition was hosted by Bethal and the categories were mono, scapes, nature and open.

Each photo is judged, given a certain amount of points based on guidelines set by the PSSA. All the photos entered are counted together to finally give the score each club gets per category. The images that are chosen are known as “acceptances” and these are the “salon acceptances” that are required for club promotion.
