Although there has been an increase in the number of delivery services and companies that can deliver products to small enterprises, having your own transport increases business opportunities and provides greater independence.
Hyundai has converted its Grand i10 and Atos Cargo hatchback models to offer 1.2 cubes of space, cargo nets and a strong wire mesh barrier, which makes it an ideal alternative to a small bakkie.
Two derivatives are available: the Atos 1.1 Motion Cargo (manual) and Atos 1.1 Fluid Cargo (manual). The Grand i10 1.0 Motion Cargo (manual) completes the range.
Hyundai has reported brisk sales of these vehicles. The Fidelity Services Group has also bought a substantial number of these vehicles.
“We have identified the need for a small cargo transporter, particularly for delivery of smaller parcels and goods in a vehicle that keeps it secure in a robust cargo hold. The initial conversion of the Grand i10 into the Cargo derivative, with the secure hold area in place of the two rear seats, proved to be a winner,” said Stanley Anderson, the sales and operations director of Hyundai Automotive South Africa.
“We homologated the Grand i10 Cargo as a light commercial vehicle, which created another benefit for businesses because they can claim back VAT on their purchase. Following the success of the Grand i10, we also homologated the slightly smaller Atos 1.1 Cargo as the youngest entry to our light commercial vehicle range,” said Anderson.
Further to this, Hyundai reported that the warranty burn rate (the average cost of warranty repairs for the model range) at the time of this news release for the Grand i10 was R62.26 per unit per month, and for the Atos even lower at R48.04 per unit per month.
Engines and transmission
A 998cc normally aspirated petrol engine is used to propel the Grand i10 1.0 Motion Cargo, delivering 49kW and 94Nm driven to the front wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox.
The Atos Cargo derivatives come with a 1 086cc four-cylinder normally aspirated petrol engine – also linked to a five-speed manual gearbox and producing 50kW and 99Nm.
Interior
All these Hyundai Cargo offerings offer comfortable office space with air conditioning, electric windows, central locking, Bluetooth and much more. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are also available.
Safety features include ABS, EBD and air bags.
Pricing starts at R179 900 for the Atos 1.1 Motion Cargo. All these vehicles come with a seven-year/150 000km warranty and a one-year/15 000km service plan package.
