Tweefontein aims to empower community through partnership

In its latest social upliftment project, Glencore Tweefontein Complex partnered with one of its contractors, Paramount Tracks, to support the Siyasebenza Agricultural Cooperation on the Weltevreden Farm.

Mine executives and representatives of Paramount Tracks visited the site on Thursday May 13. Tweefontein Complex supported the Siyasebenza Agricultural Cooperation by providing vegetable seeds and agricultural training to help the farming community members gain more skills and
knowledge for more sustainable practices and growth in farming.

In addition, Paramount Tracks, which provides professional services and specialises in the supply and repair of earthmoving undercarriage, bowls and buckets, also assisted the Weltevreden farming community by providing borehole water. Paramount Tracks upgraded a borehole that provides the 50 residents with 100 000 litres water per day. With this partnership, every household now has
access to clean running water, which they previously did not have, and water for irrigation.
“We are thankful to Paramount Tracks for their leadership and partnership with
us. It’s with this partnership that we can empower the people of Weltevreden Farm with equitable access to safe water. The most impactful initiatives happen when there is a collaboration between us and our contractors for the benefit of our communities,” said Lucky Mabuza, assistant general manager of Tweefontein, Glencore.
As an extension of this support, Glencore Coal has beneficiaries in the farming community. This is part of its ongoing skills development programmes, where Glencore aims to train community members
in various skillsets to set them up for better entrepreneurial and employment opportunities.
