Still no lead on missing refuse removal truck

There is no lead regarding the missing Thaba Chweu Local Municipality (TCLM) refuse removal compactor truck. It has been missing since the early hours of September 26 from the municipal premises.

TCLM residents were abuzz on the municipal Facebook page after the municipality had released a media statement online.

According to the Facebook post, it stated that the municipal refuse removal will be delayed in Lydenburg. This is a result of one its compactor truck having being stolen.

The post also stated that the matter had been reported to the Lydenburg SAPS and the municipality would also conduct its own investigation into the matter. TCLM apologised for the inconvenience this may cause.

Steelburger/Lydenburg News posed questions to the municipality regarding the missing compactor truck in order to understand how someone gained access to the premise with a 24-hour security deployed, and with CCTV cameras on the premises?

TCLM’s communications and marketing manager, Themba Sibiya, could provide answers. He said a media statement had been released on their Facebook page and the matter was placed under police investigation.

According to Capt Alfred Moela of the Lydenburg SAPS, they received a report from the municipality about the missing truck and it is not yet known how the criminals gained access to the premises.

“The matter is still under investigation. We plead with the community to come forward to assist with the finding of this missing truck.” he said.

Moela said the investigation is still pending.
