Traditional healer from Masoyi gets 10 years for rape

The court heard that the healer, Sibusiso Ginindza had raped the victim while claiming to heal her on November 11, 2017.

A 31-year-old traditional healer, arrested in connection with the rape of a 16-year-old girl in 2017, was recently sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Sibusiso Ginindza from Masoyi was found guilty of rape by the Nelspruit Regional Court on July 9.
The court heard that Ginindza had raped the victim while claiming to heal her on November 11, 2017.

According to the charge sheet, the teen had been receiving medical help at Ginindza’s home.

On the day in question, she was accompanied by her mother to his home. He apparently asked the victim’s mother to wait in the dining room while he proceeded to the consultation hut (endumbeni) with the girl.
It was only after they had left his home that the victim started crying and told her mother what Ginindza had done to her.

The court heard that Ginindza had smeared his penis with traditional medicine and raped the victim.
The matter was then reported to Masoyi Police Station and the suspect was subsequently arrested.

The court convicted Ginindza guilty to charges of rape.

It also declared him unfit to possess a firearm.
