Solidarity revs up Kyalami

What started as an online race with a charitable cause has captured the attention of many motorsport competitors and fans alike.

Created to both provide interactive entertainment to motorsport enthusiasts and support the Solidarity Fund, the Solidarity e-Race brought to you by Afrihost, Data Sciences Corporation, Pure Storage and NEC has combined the passion for speed with patriotism and resulted in an exciting way to support South Africa during this tough time.

“While we are fully aware that South Africans are passionate about their cars and motorsport and even more so about their country, it is amazing to see how many people came together to support this race and its cause. Even more exciting is the fact that now we will be heading into the semi-finals and final race where we will get to see these talented drivers, both sim racers & real racers, battle it out for the top of the podium,” Greg Moloney, Commentator, Voice of Choice.

At 8 AM on Tuesday 14 April was the conclusion of the qualifying sessions which kicked off on Thursday 9 April 2020. During the qualifying sessions, the servers recorded 137 registered racers completing over 23 000 laps or 104 232km of the historical layout of Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit. This is roughly the equivalent of circumventing the earth twice. After the conclusion of the qualifying sessions, the Solidarity e-Race team identified the top 100 racers which will be split in four different races for the semi-finals. Each participant will be allocated a starting position on the grid of one of the four semi-final races; this will be announced via live stream on all the relevant social media pages at 2 PM on 14 April. The semi-final races which will last for 10 laps will kick off at 7 PM on the same day. The six fastest drivers from each race will qualify for the grand final taking place at 7 PM on the 15 April 2020.

The semi-final and the grand final will be live-streamed on YouTube and Facebook with the commentary from Greg Moloney where motorsport enthusiasts can catch all the action. Further updates will be posted on Twitter and Instagram. For more information, please visit www.solidarityerace.co.za
