Passengers moving up and in town

Taxis from Mbombela to Malalane and Hazyview were inundated with passengers with luggage.

The Mbombela Taxi Rank has been flooded with passengers following the announcement of the country’s lockdown.

Some people carrying massive bags revealed to Lowvelder Express that they would rather spend the coming 21 days with their families back home than being locked down at their current residences.

Taxis from Mbombela to Malalane and Hazyview were inundated with passengers with luggage. Queue marshalls were spotted sanitising passengers travelling to Malalane.

Muntu Gama, spokesperson for the South African National Taxi Association in Mbombela, said there had not been much of an increase in passengers in Mbombela so far.

“The increase is still noticeable around Johannesburg, maybe we will see more of an increase towards this afternoon,” he said.

Vusi Lukhele of KaBokweni Taxi Association said malls in locations were much busier this morning than in the city. “People are busy moving up and down
with their shopping spree since its month-end plus the lockdown period,” he said. He urges passengers to make means to prevent themselves from Covid-19.
