Living The High Life In The Lowveld

Mbombela (formerly Nelspruit) is without a doubt the gateway to the Lowveld, making it a popular and worthwhile destination for those looking to get out of the bigger cities. As much as it’s a geographic location, the Lowveld is undeniably a lifestyle most of all.

Mbombela (formerly Nelspruit) is where most tourists enter the Lowveld and it’s subsequently where many of those looking to escape the city settle. “The city has grown a lot; the boom started about 12 years ago and there has been a lot of property development – things like the Riverside Mall initially seemed way out of town; now they’re central landmarks,” says Linda Grimbeek, spokesperson for the Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism.

This growth has been partly due to location, but also on the back of the development of it’s impressive legislature buildings. This lead to increased job opportunities, and an influx of government agencies. Mbombela also attracts a lot of business from Maputo, with an estimated 3.5 million people travelling from Mozambique to shop and enjoy the amenities that Mbombela has to offer.

Some of those attractions include world class game viewing and experiences, the Lowveld National Botanical Gardens, Sudwala Caves, CHimp Eden and Mankele – a world class mountain bike park. That’s without even mentioning Malelane, Numbi, Paul Kruger and Phabeni gates of the Kruger National Park that are all within an hour’s drive from the city. All of this seems to point to property for sale in Nelspruit being desirable, specifically in Mbombela for some time.

According to Nick, who moved to Mbombela in 2013, “people move to the Lowveld for the climate, game reserves and quality of life.” Over the past 12 years, Mbombela’s rapid growth has supported Nick’s notion with some properties in the area selling in less that 48 hours thanks to the perfect location!
