Eisteddfod 2018: All the world is a stage at the English drama category

The eisteddfod will continue this week with the vocal category.

MBOMBELA – There is a saying that goes: “All the world is a stage.” This week, however, the two stages at Communio Church became the world for participants of the English speech and drama category of the Nelspruit Eisteddfod.

Participants had the opportunity to compete in a wide variety of items such as undramatised and dramatised poetry, improvisation, monologues, dialogues and group theatre, to mention only a few.

Under the watchful eye of adjudicators Deborah Nel and Sarah Barlin, 1 970 participants performed from Monday to Saturday.
Lihle Nkabinde (11) took part in the undramatised poetry category on Tuesday and earned herself one of the highest marks of the day – 95 per cent A ++. ”

This is my first year doing the eisteddfod, but I will definitely come again next year. I was scared at first, but I enjoyed it so much,” Lihle said.

At the above-mentioned item, adjudicator Nel urged the children to practise their drama in front of a mirror so that they could work on their facial expressions while adjudicator Barlin focused on intensity, volume and shading of the poems that the kids delivered.
