Leon Maré releases new book, The Devolved

Maré has a sound knowledge of Kruger where he often offered his help to the conservation community

Lowvelder blogger, Dr Leon Maré, needs no introduction. His blog, Wild stuff in Africa, is popular, not only with local readers but it also has an international following. What many people might not know, is that Maré is a published author and has just released his seventh book, The Devolved, on pre-order at Amazon Kindle.

Many of his previous book are set in the Kruger National Park and when reading it, one can easily mistake some of his characters for roleplayers who had been part of the park in one way or another, over the years. Maré has a sound knowledge of Kruger where he often offered his help to the conservation community. And his new book is no different.

The Devolved is once again set against the backdrop of the Skukuza community. It may however be a “different kind” of Skukuza than the one you know! In a short synopsis he shared with Lowvelder, Maré writes: “For years the Skukuza community had been clinging to the belief that their Utopia could not possibly be the last bastion of civilisation on the African continent. Now there was hope, in the form of a vapour trail in the morning sky. However, the hope soon turned to despair as a new threat became apparent.

“Man was the apex predator, the undisputed king of all mammals. But now, over the arid plains and through the desolate jungles of Africa, extinction was stalking not only mankind, but all things living. Man was about to pay the ultimate price for years of benevolence and humanitarian aid, which had run out decades ago… There is no circumventing the basic laws of nature – a fact that was about to become abundantly clear. The first ones who dared to cross were compelled to do so by pressure from the masses behind. None of them made it. From the flotsam rose a destructive force that had existed only in their genetic memory for generations. The folklore and superstitions of their ancestors had suddenly come to life. The destruction was complete and the retreat chaos.”

If you pre-order now, Amazon will deliver the book to you kindle, Smartphone or computer on May 28.
Maré, a retired dentist, lives on the West Coast of South Africa where he spends most of his time writing. Other published titles include Sasquatch, Cheetah, Poacher in the Rain and Show me a reason.
